Fibroids

Fibroids are common growths of the uterus that usually appear during one’s child-bearing years. They are not cancer, and rarely turn cancerous.

Symptoms can vary based on the location, size and number of fibroids. The most common symptoms include:

  • Heavy or painful menstruation
  • Long or frequent periods
  • Pelvic pain
  • Frequent urination
  • Swollen abdomen
  • Pain in stomach or lower back
  • Pregnancy complications

More research on prevention is needed. There are both hormonal and minimally invasive surgical options available for treatment.
