Pelvic organ prolapse
The pelvic organs—vagina, bladder, uterus, urethra, and rectum—are held in place with muscle and connective tissue. When these weaken after childbirth or menopause, pelvic organs can drop from their normal positions, leading to a bulge in the vagina.
In addition to a noticeable bulge, symptoms can include pelvic pressure or pain, lower back pain, urinary and bowel changes, and painful sex.
There are both non-surgical and minimally invasive surgical options available for treatment.
